Daughter of a village head Jin Lan had loved Geng Hu for a long time. But her parents were contempt upon Geng's poverty and opposed to the affair, wishing her to marry someone rich. Jin and Geng had no choice but to date in secret. One day a gangster Old Ba witnessed Jin and Geng's date and fussed about it by telling innkeeper Chun Wuniang, who had been a secret admirer of Geng. Nanny Anlong was so horrified that she ran back to the village. Chun accompanied her home and then went to Jin's father to plead, where she spared to time to stop Jin's father from forcing Jin to abort. After tireless persuasion of Chun and Jin's insistence to take care of Nanny Anlong, Jin's father finally agreed. Chun then took Jin to Nanny Anlong's house. Soon the news came that villages kidnapped by the bandits had escaped. After prolonged waiting Geng finally returned with injuries. As he celebrated reunion with his lover and grandmother, Chun walked away in sorrow.
