Hu Yimei was married to Cao Zijian and had a son called Xiaojian. Since a shipwreck Cao was not heard of. Hu assumed that her husband was dead and re-married his friend Wang Liping a year later, with whom she had another son called Xiaoping. Hu loved spending so much that she became an increasingly unbearable burden for Wang. One day Wang received a call from Cao in the office. He was so frightened that he rushed home to discuss with his wife, who was dating another lover Zhang Bingzhong at home. She then asked Zhang to leave immediately. When Wang told her that Cao had not died, she thought it was unbelievable and started to argue with him.

When Cao returned home he was furious to know that Wang had married his wife and had a son. He engaged in a fight with Wang. Hu's mother tried to pacify their emotions and sought help from a lawyer Mr Wu, but Wang and Cao failed to reconcile. Weary of Cao and Wang's struggle, Hu asked them to demonstrate their capabilities of being a good husband and a good father. The winner would stay with her. As Cao and Wang competed painstakingly in housework, Hu always sneaked out to meet Zhang in his house. Soon Cao and Wang were exhausted. Thinking that Hu was an unaffordable big spender, they began to retreat from the struggle. Their negotiations soon resulted in a deadlock and finally the two confessed that they were retreating for the sake of personal freedom. Hu was heartbroken to know that she was going to be abandoned, and went to Zhang for comfort. Zhang wasted no time to propose to her and became the third husband of Hu.
