The princes were fighting bitterly for the throne during the last years of Emperor Kangxi's reign, Qing Dynasty. The fourth prince had secured the support of "the Eight Heroes from Southern Yangtze" with the slogan "Manchus and the Han belong to the same family". At a banquet in the mountain he met a smart girl Meng Lisi whose mother was an ape. He asked one of the Eight Heroes Gan Fengchi to bring her to the Heavenly Mountains where she could learn martial arts.

A few years later Meng graduated from her school and went to visit the fourth prince, who had already become Emperor Yongzheng by altering his father's will. Impressed by Meng's beauty, Yongzheng received her as a VIP and asked her to stay behind. Meng knew nothing about Yongzheng and agreed. She finally became an imperial concubine.

Since his ascension to the throne Yongzheng refused to materialise his promise of promoting harmony between the ruling Manchus and the Han people. Instead he had brutally suppressed the Han on various occasions. The Eight Heroes protested in the palace where they were served with poisonous wine. Five of them died on the spot. Besieged by imperial guards, Gan and his comrades tried to fight for their lives and were saved by Meng. One of the imperial guards Xie Boyan forced Meng to tell him the whereabouts of the Heroes but Meng refused firmly. Luo then reported to Yongzheng but he took no action against Meng.

Soon Gan and his comrades sneaked into the palace again to assassin Yongzheng. Meng saved the emperor from their hands and the Heroes were arrested. After this Meng released the Heroes despite Yongzheng's imperial order. Since then Yongzheng was suspicious of Meng's loyalty and abandoned her. Angered and saddened, Meng left the palace as Yongzheng sent some troops to arrest the surviving Heroes at Shaolin Temple.

After Meng's departure Yongzheng could not help missing her night and day. He wrote her a letter with blood and asked his aide to plead her back. As Meng arrived at Shaolin Temple Xie threatened her again but Gan appeared and killed Xie. Meng was so frustrated that she decided to live in tranquil in the Heavenly Mountains for the rest of her life.

However, Meng could never forget Yongzheng. She returned to the palace and spent the last night with him. When Yongzheng woke up in the morning, he could no longer see Meng but only some of her hair.
